Training Program
Recently, Shodhana Consultancy had organized a WHO wheelchair training programme for the staff of DDRC Pune and their partner organisations from 21 to 25 March, 2022 in collaboration with Motivation India, a Bangalore based NGO, DDRC (District Disability Rehabilitation Centre), Pune and Kamayani Prashikshan & Sanshodhan Society. Training was arranged for the first time in the state of Maharashtra in order to ensure that persons with mobility impairment get the appropriate wheelchair suited to their geographical terrain and their ergonomic requirements as well as access to wheelchair maintenance services. Eminent trainers from Motivation India conducted the 5 days training based on WHO 8 steps of wheelchair service provision (Referral and appointment, assessment, prescription, funding & ordering, product preparation, fitting, user training, maintenance, repair and follow up). Training aimed at creating a cadre of trained human resource at DDRCs of Maharashtra to serve the persons with mobility impairment. In the context of dearth of human resources in this field, this training was very crucial and it is the need of the hour to scale it up so that approximately 6 lakh persons with mobility impairment in the state are served better with a global standard wheelchair services being available to them.
